St. Louis, Mo., December 10, 2008 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team had three student-athletes earn National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region honors for the 2008 season, as announced by the association. Senior forward Marshall Plow, Solon, Ohio (Hawken Upper) and sophomore back Alex Neumann, Louisville, Ky. (duPont Manuel) earned first-team honors, and sophomore defender Randall Schoen, Wauwatosa, Wis. (Wauwatosa East) was a second-team selection. All three student-athletes earn NSCAA all-region honors for the first time in their careers. Plow played in all 18 games for the Bears this year, making 17 starts. He scored a goal and had an assist playing forward for the Red and Green. Plow was a first-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree this year after twice earning honorable mention all-UAA honors (2006 and 2007). He finishes his career at Washington University with 13 goals and 12 assists, and 38 total points. Neumann and Schoen started in the backfield for all 18 of Washington University's games this season and served as the anchors of the Bears' stellar defensive unit. The WU defense allowed just 22 goals all year, posting eight shutouts. Washington U. had a shutout streak of seven-consecutive games in the middle of the season, which set a new school record. Schoen was also a first-team all-UAA honoree for the first time in his career. Washington U. (12-5-1) ended the season with a 2-1 double overtime victory of the University of Chicago on Nov. 8. The win pushed the Bears to 4-3 in UAA action, which was good for a fourth-place finish in the conference standings.
