Washington University Women’s Soccer Falls to Chicago, 1-0, on Senior Day

St. Louis, Mo., November 8, 2008 – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon at Francis Field in St. Louis, Mo., in both team's final University Athletic Association (UAA) contest of the season.

Sigrid Nachtergaele scored the game-winner for Chicago with five minutes remaining as she deflected a shot past senior Amanda Boe, Aurora, Ill. (Waubonsie Valley) for her fifth goal of the season. Boe finished the contest with three saves.


Washington U. outshot Chicago, 11-8, while both teams each had five corner kicks. The loss snapped Washington U.'s 12-game home win streak dating back to last season.

Prior to the game, Washington U. honored its nine seniors who played their final regular season game at Francis Field. The senior class has posted a 59-19-2 (.750) record during the four-year period, won three UAA titles, and appeared in three NCAA Tournaments.

Washington U. shared the UAA title with Emory University with a 6-1 conference mark, but earned the NCAA automatic bid due to a 2-0 win over the Eagles on Oct. 12. The 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. via live video webcast on www.ncaa.com. ---------------------------------
