O'MARA, SMITH LEAD UMSL MEN'S SOCCER TO FIRST GLVC WIN OVER KENTUCKY WESLEYAN

ST. LOUIS, MO., September 26, 2008 – Freshman Johnny O'Mara and senior Jared Smith each recorded goals to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Kentucky Wesleyan Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

It was the first league win of the season for the Tritons, who improved to 5-3-1 overall, including 1-3 in the GLVC. Kentucky Wesleyan drops to 0-8 on the year, including 0-7 in the conference.

O'Mara put the Tritons up 1-0 in the 39th minute with his third goal of the season on a one-timer off a cross from senior Colin Huber.

Smith then added an insurance goal in the 65th minute, firing from five yards out on the right side on a cross from junior Blair Spencer. It was Smith's fourth goal of the season.

The Tritons finished the contest with 13 shots, while allowing just four by the Panthers. UMSL landed seven shots on goal, while Kentucky Wesleyan placed two on target. Senior Mike Bober played all 90 minutes in the keeper spot, recording two saves.

UMSL is back in action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Bellarmine in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
