UMSL MEN'S SOCCER DOMINATES IN 6-1 VICTORY AGAINST SAGINAW VALLEY STATE

QUINCY, ILL., August 31, 2008 - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-1 victory past Saginaw Valley State Sunday night in Soccer Bowl XV, hosted by Quincy.
The Cardinal (0-2) took a 1-0 lead just three minutes 29 seconds into the
contest, but from there, it was all UMSL. The Tritons out shot their foes 22-5,
landing six shots on goal.

A balanced attack helped UMSL to the victory, with all six goals being scored
by different players.

Junior Blair Spencer scored on a penalty kick in the 13th minute to even the
score at 1-1. Spencer then assisted sophomore Jack McKenna on a two-on-one break
for the Tritons' second goal in the 21st minute.

Senior Jared Smith helped UMSL to a 3-1 halftime lead on a header assisted by
junior Chris Clarkin in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, senior Tom Novelly scored unassisted in the 59th minute
before freshman Johnny O'Mara added another unassisted goal in the 89th
minute on a breakaway off a Cardinal turnover.

Freshman Mike McCarthy assisted senior Colin Huber with just over a minute to
play for the game's final score.

Smith and O'Mara each fired a game-high four shots.

Senior Mike Bober played all 90 minutes between the posts, recording two saves.
