UMSL MEN'S SOCCER PICKS UP WIN NO. 3 AT FINDLAY

FINDLAY, OHIO , September 5, 2008 – Three first half goals helped the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory at the University of Findlay Friday afternoon. 

The win moves the Tritons to 3-0 on the season, marking the third straight year UMSL has started the season with three straight victories.


The Tritons held a 3-1 halftime lead after out-shooting Findlay , 13-9 in the first 45 minutes of play. Junior Blair Spencer scored his third goal of the season four minutes into the contest on a pass down the middle off a field shot in the right of the box. Junior Chris Clarkin assisted the goal.


Findlay knotted the score at 1-1, scoring in the 16th minute, before senior Jared Smith gave the Tritons a lead they wouldn't relinquish with a goal in the 28th minute. Senior Colin Huber assisted Smith, who found the back of the net on a cross in the middle of the box.


Huber then got a goal of his own in the 40th minute on another Clarkin assist.


Findlay scored the final goal of the game, a header in the 67th minute.


The Tritons finished the game out-shooting Findlay , 19-14, and landed six shots on goal. The Oilers landed nine shots on goal.


Senior Mike Bober played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded seven saves.


Huber paced the offense with four shots, while Smith and sophomore Jack McKenna each took two.


UMSL returns to action Wednesday, hosting Upper Iowa at 7 p.m. in its home opener at Don Dallas Field.
