SIUE Men’s Soccer Names Thompson Assistant Coach

            EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s soccer coach Kevin Kalish has announced the appointment of Kip Thompson as the new assistant coach for the Cougars.

            “Kip has been instrumental to the training and development of some of the St. Louis area’s top soccer players. He will make a great addition to this staff,” said Kalish.

            Thompson has been the Youth Director for Scott Gallagher Soccer Club in St. Louis since 2002. At Scott Gallagher, Thompson was in charge of scouting, recruiting and implementing a curriculum for the younger age groups within the club.

            He also served as the assistant coach of the 2006 Under 23 club national championship men’s team for Scott Gallagher.

            A 1993 graduate of Missouri State University in marketing, Thompson played four seasons with the Bears and earned a host of accolades. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1989, team Most Valuable Player in 1992 as well as All-Conference in the Missouri Valley and Academic All-Conference.

            Thompson holds a national youth license from the United States Soccer Federation and a National “B” license.
