UMSL MEN'S SOCCER ENDS HOME OPENER IN 2-2 TIE WITH UPPER IOWA

ST. LOUIS, MO. , September 10, 2008 – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team finished in a 2-2 double overtime tie against Upper Iowa Wednesday night in the Tritons' home opener at Don Dallas Field.

UMSL remains unbeaten on the season, moving to 3-0-1, while Upper Iowa moves to 2-3-1.

The Tritons got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by junior Blair Spencer in the 22nd minute. It was Spencer's team-leading fourth goal of the season, and kept his streak alive of scoring a goal in each game this season.

The Peacocks connected on a penalty kick of their own in the 30th minute sending both teams into halftime in a 1-1 tie.

Upper Iowa took its first lead of the game two minutes into the second half when Derek Oelmann fired in a shot off a rebound.

Senior Jared Smith scored the final goal of the game, finding the back of the net on a free kick in the 50th minute.

Upper Iowa held a 15-9 advantage in shots, including a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Senior Mike Bober played all 110 minutes in goal, finishing with seven saves.

UMSL returns to action Friday, hosting Drury at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener.
