Cougars Down Wright State

DAYTON, OHIO - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville scored three unanswered goals Friday night and defeated Wright State 3-1 in men's college soccer action.

The Cougars evened their record to 2-2 with the road victory. SIUE heads to IUPU-Ft. Wayne Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. ET matchup with the Mastodons.

"We talk about playing a complete 90 minutes," said SIUE coach Kevin Kalish. "It was close to a complete game."

Kalish said a number of players stepped up against Wright State, now 1-5. Both Chris Anzalone and Nash Maduekwe scored their first collegiate goals. Benny Jeffery scored an unassisted goal at 83:20 to put the Cougars ahead by two goals.

SIUE, which outshot Wright State 11-9, didn't start well against the Raiders. Braden Fleak scored his third goal of the season at 11:18 off an assist from Jabari Velinor.

Anzalone tied the game at 37:28 on a header from the far post on a pass from Bob Ridder. Maduekwe's goal was a heads-up play at 55:28 when Jeffery had a shot saved by Raiders goalkeeper Aaron Ritter. Maduekwe was there for the follow up.

"Nash came off the bench and gave us a spark," said Kalish.
Nick Collico earned the win in goal. He collected five saves for the Cougars.
